In collaboration with Cory Abate-Shen's group, we have been using mouse model systems to investigate the molecular genetics of prostate development and oncogenesis. Historically, many researchers have been unconvinced that mice could provide a valid model for human prostate cancer, due to differences in the anatomy of the mouse and human prostate, as well as the absence of spontaneous prostate cancer in laboratory rodents. However, recent studies have revealed striking similarities in the molecular mechanisms underlying prostate cancer progression in mice and human.
